On May 29, 2011, on the eve of International Children's Day, four people—Zhou Hai, head of the Business Department; Zhao Hongyang, head of the Manufacturing Department; Lin Baojun, employee representative of the First Manufacturing Department; and Song Jian from the General Office—were dispatched by Zhou Liangcheng, general manager of Huaguo Company, to Pingmo Primary School in Xunle Township, Guangxi, to visit the school's teachers and students and distribute scholarships.
Pingmo Primary School in Xunle Township, Guangxi, is located in a remote mountainous area. Before 2007, conditions were very rudimentary. The school building and teachers' dormitory were combined, and most were dilapidated buildings. Multiple students shared one set of textbooks, and many students had to walk tens of miles of mountain roads to school every day… After learning about this situation from a Foshan teacher, Mr. Zhou conducted a field investigation and quickly mobilized the Taiwan Business Association. Through the Education Bureau, a school building was donated and constructed at Pingmo Primary School in 2007, a water channel was built on a nearby mountaintop, and desks, chairs, office computers, and books were donated, with a total value exceeding 500,000 yuan. Mr. Zhou also mobilized the company's resources to organize employee donations of learning materials every year, and a Huaguo scholarship system was established through regular employee donations. The teachers and students of Pingmo and the local villagers are very grateful for Huaguo's kindness, and this also encourages them to strive for progress and actively develop education. Although there aren't many students, no school-age children are out of school, and there is a good track record of graduates being admitted to key middle schools in the county every year.
This visit by Huaguo representatives to Pingmo was warmly welcomed by the township government leaders and the school's teachers and students. After arriving at the school in the morning, they first visited the classrooms to see the students and understand their learning situation. Then they held a meeting with the teachers to confirm the implementation of the scholarship system. In the afternoon, accompanied by the Xunle Township secretary and the school principal, they visited students' homes, personally distributing scholarships and delivering holiday greetings and gifts.
During the process, they also learned that due to limited funds, some problems could not be improved, such as the school's old buildings, which have become dilapidated due to age; the water pipes bringing water from the mountaintop have been exposed to the elements for years, aging and being gnawed by rats, causing many sections to be easily damaged… Upon learning about this, Mr. Zhou immediately instructed that some funds be allocated from the donations for Hope Primary School to immediately address these issues!
This trip to Pingmo brought not only the love of Mr. Zhou and his Huaguo colleagues but also a sense of the positive changes taking place locally, such as the higher authorities planning to merge teaching points within a 4-kilometer radius into Pingmo Primary School for unified teaching; local villagers saving money to support their children's education, ensuring that no school-age children are out of school, no matter how difficult it is; the mountain road to the school is still rough, but some protective and improved facilities have been added to particularly dangerous sections; teachers actively visit students' homes to improve teaching quality…
We hope that together we can extend our warm hands to ignite the light of hope for the future of more impoverished students in mountainous areas.
